Crazy Hair Day

At Soccer Camp, they have different themes for the day. Yesterday was Crazy Sock Day, and today is Crazy Hair Day. Tomorrow they were asked to wear their fave soccer shirt, but unfortunately, Finn wore his C. Ronaldo shirt today.
Finn asked me to make his hair crazy so this was my creation (^_^) I didn't have colored hairsprays so I just made little pony tails in different colored bands and wove this macaroni thingys. They're actually hair accessories that I have but can't wear coz it just slides off my hair. He was kind of complaining about it, coz he says it's for girls but I convinced him since it's crazy hair day, it didn't matter.
A lot of the kids had colored hairs and teased and braided and tied. They were judged by everyone and whoever had the loudest response won. Finn won for his group! He was given a water bottle. Then he said thank you to me (^_^)

Soccer Camp and a Dead Battery

For 5 days this week, Finn will be attending the Soccer Camp sponsored by the North Arlington Youth Center. It starts at 9am and ends at 1pm, so kids should bring their own snacks. Gatorade was provided but with the number of kids attending, one big container isn't enough so good thing I had lots of water with me.
The kids were divided into 3 teams, according to their age group. They were taught the basics and they played mock games. Finn was having fun but he said that he gets tired so sometimes he just stands there and waits for the ball to come to him ... hehehe. I think that's the reason why he prefers to be the goalie (^_^)
They had a few short breaks and one longer one at noon. I had the water I brought in a cooler that plugs into the car so that it stays cold. For the lunch break, I turned on our car so Finn can keep cool for a bit with the AC on. Then I turned it off again when it was time to go back to the game. When the session ended at 1pm, the car wouldn't start (o_O) I tried again, nothing, just the tick tick tick sound when you turn it on. I turned off the radio, the AC, and unplugged the cooler, then waited a few more minutes before trying it again. Still nothing. So I called our insurance and told them of my situation and they sent for a tow truck. I told them I wanted them to try to jumpstart the car and if that doesn't work, then they can tow it. The truck arrived about 30 mins later and he didn't have cables for jumpstarting (-_-) *sigh* So he towed the car back to our house. He offered to take it to a mechanic but I'm not sure where Jojo would want to take it if it had to be fixed so I just asked him to take it back to our house. Good thing it's not far from the field we were at and towing was covered by our insurance. I hope it starts again tonight so we don't have to change the battery yet.

Nintendo World

Today we had to renew our passports so the 4 of us (Jojo, Finn, my mom and I) took the bus to NY. We were at the consulate before 9am and we had everything ready ... photos which we printed free from EPassportPhoto, application form, old passports and copies of required documents. We got a number and waited maybe 5 minutes before being called. We handed our stuff and then we were told that the pictures we submitted were no longer valid. The guy told us that the background should now be royal blue and not white (-_-) He still took our papers and told us to have our photo taken somewhere, and come back before paying for the renewal.
So we had to go out, wait a long time for our photo to be taken since there were a lot of people, spend $10 each for that, and go back to the consulate. But when we got back, we just had to give the guy our photo and then we paid for the renewal, then go to the basement for fingerprinting. Down in the basement, there were 2 people doing the fingerprinting. Turns out, the girl was my senior at Siena College (^_^)
So after that was done, Jojo had to go to work and I had to accompany my mom to the Canadian consulate for her visa application. We got there at around 10.30 and they were already closed for applications. We'll just have to go back another day for that.
We walked back to the Rockefeller Plaza and went to Nintendo World where Finn and I got all excited! There were a lot of Wii booths for both Wii Fit and regular games, and a lot of DS stations too. Finn (and I) played a lot and he also bought a Bowser plushie. My mom bought him a Mario poster for his room. Then it was time for lunch. We just had pizza across the street, coz we wanted to go back after eating (^_^) And we did. We stayed there until 2pm, then walked back to Bryant Park to rest. At 3pm we walked to 42nd to have ice cream at Cold Stone, then walked to Port Authority to wait for Jojo so we can all go home together.
A week after next, we're going back to the Canadian consulate. For sure we're going back to Nintendo World afterwards (^_^)

Necklace

I wanted to wear a long necklace for tonight but I don't have one. So I made one instead (^_^) I used tiny beads and bigger beads for accents. I still want more beaded tassles but I'll do that tomorrow ... my neck and eyes are too tired now. But I get to wear it tonight (^_^)

Packing

We have moved a few times already in the past and everytime we start packing, it never ceases to amaze me how we have accumulated so many things! Right now we're packing to make room in our apartment for when my siblings and their families visit in August. For one week, there's gonna be a total of 11 people here. We're trying to clear out the living room coz that's the only place for us to spread out air beds. Not even sure if 2 air beds are gonna fit in there ... but we have to make it fit I guess. Our sleeper sofa is in the foyer so no problem there, and our other sofa in the living room. And we have a mat that can fit in Finn's room. All we need now are the 2 air beds so that everyone has a place to sleep.
I have cleared out 2 standing bookshelves and our CDs. Still need to box some other stuff so that I can bring the tall bookshelf up in the attic. The smaller bookshelf is up there already, along with the CD shelf/tower/thingy. Once that is done, I can move the remaining chest of drawers to the side so there's a walkway when the airbeds are in place. I may also need to clear out the coffee table ... or move the TV. I'll know when we get the air beds.
Maybe you're wondering why we're going to all this trouble and not book them at a hotel instead. Well, for one thing, this is cheaper since they don't have to pay for board. Another, it's more fun when everybody's in one place. Last time we all got together was 7 years ago, so this is a reunion for us. Plus, my mom is here too. There's gonna be a lot of late nights spent talking for sure (^_^)

Crafty Crickets

I've twittered and plurked about our weekly trips to the library. That's because I signed Finn up for the Catch the Reading Bug program at our public library. It's free and you can choose which activities to join. For his age group, there were 3 different classes: Crafty Crickets, Tangled Web, and Fleas Read with Me. I listed him for the first two but Tangled Web (where they get to use the computers and surf the internet for bugs) was already filled so he only goes to Crafty Crickets. That's every Wednesday at 11.45am.
Aside from the activities, the kids are encouraged to read a minimum of 10 books during the summer and everytime they show what they read, they get a prize. Since Finn has already read 9 books, the kids' librarian will be spacing out his prizes. He has received 3 prizes so far.
Yesterday we weren't able to go coz Finn's eye was still a little pink so he missed the class. We'll probably go tomorrow to show the books he read this week and borrow more for the next week.
Here are photos of Finn's first craft activity.
