NYC Holiday Trip Day 1

First stop was Kinokuniya Bookstore, but it was still closed when we got there. So we crossed the street to Bryant Park and saw that CitiPond Skating rink was open even if it was drizzling so we went skating! That was supposed to be for tomorrow but anyway ... after skating we bought 2 ridiculously spicy pickles and boy was it really spicy! Jojo and I weren't able to finish it. Then we went to have cake and tea at Cafe Zaiya inside Kinokuniya (yum). Then we walked to Nintendo World to try the WiiU. Finn wants it for his birthday but we'll see (~_^) We also bought a reversible beanie for Finn and 2 socks for me.
Next is our late lunch at Del Frisco's!!! What a treat! Finn and I had the Businessman Special (salad, 6oz filet mignon, mashed potato, dessert) and Jojo had the trio of filet (3 4oz filet with different toppings). Finn actually took about 2oz from my filet coz he didn't eat his potatoes =P
After that wonderful lunch we walked to Image Anime to look for a messenger bag for Jojo. We ended up buying his Naruto bag, my Sailor Moon bag and wrist band, and Finn's creeper head and Minecraft sword (^_^)
We planned on staying in the city til after dinner but we were carrying too much stuff already so we headed home. We'll do more stuff tomorrow =)

Changes

We decided to just maintain one fish tank. Today we moved the residents in our 29G tank to the 46G tank, plus Bruce the red-tailed shark from the 5G tank. This will make it easier for us, plus it's gonna free up the space in the dining area once we get the medium tank out.

Also, we have new family members! Meet Scarlet (brown with red eyes) and Midnight (black with white streak). They're a few months old and we got them last Friday, Nov. 23, so that's gonna be their birthday (^_^) We bought more stuff for their cage today too. Cuties right?

Aid

Yesterday we were packing relief goods at Church - canned goods, water, fleece blanket in a tote bag - for today's distribution. This was sponsored by the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, Inc. for the International Aid for Humanity.

At 1:30 today we started handing out goods to our neighbors in Elizabeth. Good thing Jojo was able to grab a few for me to give to friends who were devastated by Sandy. Makes you feel real good (^_^)

First Snow

We're having the first flurries of the season because of this nor'easter. Right now it doesn't look like it's gonna accumulate coz it melts as soon as it hits. Let's just hope it stays that way.

Update: Guess I was wrong. Snow is starting to accumulate, and forecast says to expect maybe up to 2 inches. As long as it's only that and not more.

Getting gas

No, not intestinal gas but gasoline for the car =P There are only very few gas stations open and lucky for us, there's one close by and the line was short. We only waited 32 minutes (^_^) Believe me, that was short. Most gas stations have lines that are miles long and the wait would be hours! There's also a limit of $40/vehicle or 2 cans/person. Gov. Christie also put in effect the odd/even scheme so if the last number on your license is odd, you can only fill up on odd days and if it's even like us, fill up on even days (today is the 4th - even). It's a good plan so that stations aren't flooded with cars.

I hope other stations get their supplies soon and good luck to those in line for gas.

Vet

Time for a check-up and a few shots for Raven. She is now 81 lbs! Oh boy, and it's getting harder for Jojo to carry her into the car. She doesn't want to jump in the back, doesn't really like car rides I guess. But the stairs or ramps that you can buy are so expensive! Jojo will just have to deal with it :P

Half & Half

Half 1: I went to the gym this morning and attended the half & half class - half kickboxing and resistance training. We also used the step and did core exercises too so I hope that my muscles won't complain too much =P

Half 2: School resumes on Monday and for Thurs. and Fri. they were supposed to have no classes because of the teacher's convention. The school super called earlier to say that they cancelled the convention so that the kids can have class instead to make up for the 2 extra days missed this week. But that means they still don't have any extra emergency days left. If they get snow days in winter, they'd either shave days off from spring break or extend the school days in summer :( Oh well.

Sandy week

School is now suspended for the rest of the week and Jojo will be working from home as well the whole week. The problem with school is, they only have 3 emergency days allotted so since they've used it up already plus 2 more days for the week, that means their spring break will probably be 2 days shorter. Let's hope there won't be emergency snow days in winter, otherwise they might not have spring break at all :(

Sandy Day 2

We lost power around 10:30 last night and only now - 3:43pm - was it restored. School called to say it's still suspended tomorrow. Not sure about Jojo's work. He couldn't work from home today coz we didn't have power. If the trains are still suspended tomorrow then he needs to WFH again.

Good thing our stove top is gas and not electric coils so we were able to cook. For the first time in years I had to cook rice manually! Thank goodness it didn't burn =P we were also able to boil water for Jojo's coffee.

So what did we do today? Games! We played sungka, chess, checkers and air hockey. We also had some reading done.

Thankfully nothing bad happened in our neighborhood, the house is intact, everything in the backyard is secure. Raven didn't mind the storm one bit :)

So that's our frankenstorm experience. I hope the others affected by the storm are coping well.

Sandy

Frankenstorm Sandy is arriving today. The winds are picking up and we had some rain this morning. School is suspended today and tomorrow and Jojo is working from home today, maybe even tomorrow since trains are suspended as well.
We're hoping it won't as bad here in our area but we're prepared. Hopefully there won't be any power cuts or water shortages. Stay safe east coasters!

Six Flags

It’s Spring Break and first on our to do list is Six Flags. Jojo bought season passes for us, yay! Good thing because today we had very strong winds and they had to close quite a few of the rides for safety reasons. So we rode a few and caught the dolphin show and just had a leisurely stay. We can come back everyday if we want to during the summer (^_^)

Ten-ager

I have a ten-ager! Before he wanted to have a go-kart party but when we asked him to choose between more expensive presents and a party, he chose the presents =P That’s why he got a flat screen TV to replace his tube TV and an iPhone 3GS. So for some sort of celebration, we went to the Liberty Science Center yesterday. He loves it there.

First we watched the Tornado Alley movie at their IMAX dome theatre. This Wild Winds booth was outside.

Finn is tall enough to try walking on i-beams.

He loves rock climbing but this one goes across instead of up.

Today we ate in Mitsuwa and just bought an ice cream cake for home.
