New Stuff!

Black Friday has come and gone and we went shopping yesterday morning. Other stuff that we needed, Jojo was able to order online for the same discounted price as in the stores so we didn't have to rush to the stores for those. What we did buy yesterday was Finn's Nintendo DS Lite (Gold) Bundle plus another game and the Transformer Case set. If you can see in the 2nd photo, the cover of the case has an interchangeable picture. Instead of putting in what came with the set, I inserted Finn's photo instead to really personalize it. Even if it is Finn's, I'm gonna play with it while he's in school .. hehehe(^_^)
Today, Jojo surprised me with my gift - a black Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 (^_^) What I especially like about it is its super steady shot feature. I need that for taking action shots of Finn and also for my everyday photos to make sure they're not even the tiniest bit blurred. Now I just have to look for a case for it. Thank you BAJ! Mwahhhh (^x^)

Rippers

We picked Finn up from school at 12.30pm and then we went out for lunch at Rutt's Hut, a nondescript restaurant in Clifton. I just found out about it in one of Travel Channel's Top Hot Dog places special and Rutt's is one of them because of their deep fried hot dogs, lovingly nicknamed rippers. Why? Because they literally rip open when deep fried (^_^)
Jojo and I ordered 2 hotdogs each topped with their special Rutt's relish (said to be the best too), fries with gravy and buffalo wings that came with fries as well plus 2 medium sodas. Finn had a plain hotdog with plain fries and a soda. It was good but you gotta have at least 2 hot dogs, one isn't enough (^_^) The wings are good too, a bit crunchy unlike most wings that have soft skin.
The place is small and only has 2 counters in the middle and a long one along the window with a children's counter below it. If you want to sit down, there's a bar next door where you can bring your food in but for the real thing, I think it's better to eat on the counters. (The picture of the counters I got online - didn't want to take a picture of it with all the people there)
There were a lot of patrons from all walks of life, young (being Finn) and old, teenagers, men and women in suits, security guys, everybody! The place may not look it but I guess it really is popular. We left after 1pm and there were still people waiting in line.
The price isn't bad either, only $1.80 per hotdog. The wings were over $4 and the fries at over $3. Definitely a place to visit again.

Parent-Teacher Conference

For 3 days this week, Finn only has 4-hour sessions in school because they scheduled the Parent-Teacher Conference in afternoon. My slot was at 1.35-1.50 today, just 15 minutes with the teacher.
Academically, Finn is doing great. All the kids were assessed in September and she said that they have some sort of scoring for them (highest of 35) that by the end of the schoolyear (June), the kids should have at least 22 points and Finn already scored 25 points at the beginning of the year. Also, in all of the tests they've taken, he only made one mistake (^_^)
The only concern is sharing. It seems that Finn would sometimes hog the toys and would get upset if he needs to share so that's one thing he needs to work on. I guess that's the drawback for being an only child. Oh well, at least it's nothing major, and I'm very proud of his academics. Good job Finn!

DK Visit

No, not Donna Karan but Daniel and Keng, friends from UP Green League. Keng is studying at Albert Einstein and Daniel is here for the weekend. They came to our house after getting lost (they got off the bus one stop early coz they followed some girls who got off at that stop), luckily ours wasn't that far from where they were. Anyhoo, we left for Johnny Carino's for dinner and when we got there, waiting time was 40 mins. Jojo went next door to Shannon Rose and it was the same. It's a Friday night so that's to be expected but we were hungry, it was almost 8pm then. We called Applebee's to check first their waiting time and it was 10-20 mins so we went there instead.
So dinner was good, lots of laughs and catching up with the guys. We took them back to Keng's apartment in the Bronx, right next to Albert Einstein. There we met his one-eyed dog ... I forgot the name sorry. He's so cute! He doesn't bark at all coz pets aren't allowed in their building so he really has to stay quiet (don't tell anybody ok?) When we got in, he was all excited to see more people and he immediately got his toy and went from one person to the next, showing it off (^_^) So cute! But later on my allergies acted up and started sneezing so I had to stay away from the dog.
Finn is interested in the human body and so I took one book from the shelf on the human anatomy. We started looking at the pictures and he's not at all squeamish. Sometimes he'd say "eewwww, that looks gross" but he doesn't turn away and will ask which is which. Keng was so impressed he gave that book to us (^_^) Thanks Keng!
So when it was nearly midnight, we decided to start heading back home. I hope we get to see each other again sometime - they're both so busy!

S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G

Finn can read already, although sometimes he'll ask for help on which sound is the right one especially for vowels. Here are a few words that he tried to spell out according to how he says it.

I give him props for spelling peanut butter correctly (not sure if he copied it from somewhere) and the carrot juice is pretty funny. The orange well, if I show him the word orange, he knows it's orange so I don't know why he spelt it that way ... hmmmm. But at least he's trying (^_^) Mind you, this isn't part of his schoolwork, he just wants to do it.
