Today we went to the Liberty Science Center coz Finn has been wanting to go "somewhere" during the winter break. And since we're gonna be busy preparing for our New Year's Eve dinner on Wednesday, we figured today's the perfect day to go.
We were there before 11 and left a little after 4. Tiring but fun! It's been a long time since I've been there ... 12 years! So of course there's a lot of different things now. I think it's better if you just view the photos (^_^)
And here's a video of Finn and Jojo playing in one of the exhibits.

Snow Day
Woke up at 5am today coz the phone rang. It was a message from school saying it's a snow day today so it's closed. There weren't any snow yet but because of the forecast, I guess they were being cautious.
Finn called up his classmate at 8am to ask if their playdate today will still push through. Luckily, his mom didn't mind. They were here after 9am. Flurries started before 10am, and after some time, it was snowing harder. When there was enough snow on the ground, the kids (meaning all of us) decided to play outside. During the snowball fight, I was just a photographer. When that was done, I stepped in and we tried to make a snow man. But that didn't happen. I was able to make a huge snowball for the body, but they wanted to throw it instead so it got smashed (^_^) After that, we all decided it was time to head inside. I prepared some mozzarella sticks for the 2 boys while waiting for his mom to pick him up. They left before 1pm.
Jojo shoveled some around that time but the snow kept falling and so by mid-afternoon, it accumulated again. I figured it was my turn to shovel, so I did. Didn't want the mailcarrier to skip us because our walkway wasn't shoveled. I suppose another round of shoveling is on the agenda for later.
Here are some photos of our day in the snow. Enjoy!

My Baby Mario
I finished making a paper Mario hat yesterday (^_^) It's poorly glued but I think it looks ok. I might make a new one for Finn's birthday coz he said he wants it to be his birthday crown ... hehehe. Good thing it came out his size too. If only it weren't paper, he'd be wearing this everywhere the whole time (^-^) If you happen to find a real Mario hat somewhere, let me know ok?
Party Supplies
It's here!!! The party supplies for Finn's birthday (^_^) I ordered them on the weekend. Fast right? So everything's set, except for the last minute goodie bags that I have to order once everyone has confirmed. And I have to make something to add to the goodie bag contents. Oh, and the cake that I have to start practicing for. Ordering a specialty cake is sooo expensive so I think I'll do it myself. Not gonna tell you what I'm planning though (~_^) Just hope it turns out ok.
So the supplies came with the goodie bags plus the contents of those goodie bags, the mushroom tins for ourselves (I would have wanted to include this in the goodie bag but they're expensive), wall art, centerpiece, table cloth, crepe paper, ribbons, confetti, candles, balloons, personalized banner, placemats, spoons and forks, invites and the paper ware that we're not gonna use for the party.
The package I bought is only good for 8 guests and we're sure to have more than 8 guests. To keep costs at a minimum, instead of ordering Mario plates, napkins, cups, spoons, forks and placemats for all the kids at the party, I'd just get plain colored plastic ware to use instead. We'll just bring one set from the package for Finn to use at the party.
This is gonna be his first ... no, make that second major birthday party. First was of course his 1st birthday. He had parties for his 2nd and 3rd birthdays too but only our friends were invited. This time, we have to invite his classmates too. Gosh, if everyone invited came, there would be almost 50 kids (0_o) Good thing we're not doing it at home. That would just be chaotic! And I wouldn't have the patience to attend to 50 kids (>_<*) We're gonna hold it at Finn's Tae Kwon Do School instead. The kids would have fun while getting some exercise coz the Instructors are gonna teach them basic stuff. And it's all for FREE! Well, I will give them something for their trouble but, it's free (^_^) And renting out a place with entertainment isn't cheap.
So anyway, I'm talking too much. Guess I'm just excited (^_^) I love preparing for parties!

First Snowfall
We just had our first snowfall of the season early this morning, then it turned to rain. Good thing I was able to take some photos before it all washed away.
I also want to introduce you to our resident squirrel, Sandy. It lives in that tree and we usually see her hanging out on our fence. We're not actually sure if it's a girl but we thought of Sandy from Spongebob. If you watch that show, you'll remember an episode where Sandy was hibernating and Spongebob, together with Patrick, went in Sandy's tree dome. Sandy was soooo fat! Here's what our Sandy looks like now. She's like a ball of fat and fur (^_^) I'm sure she'll be fine when she hibernates soon.

First Visitors ...
... from out of state (^_^) Melissa is a long time friend of mine from ballet and elementary school. She came from VA, went to visit her dad in NY and came here before driving back. The blurry dog in the photo is Miles. Isn't he gorgeous? They arrived before 1pm and they just left a few minutes ago. And silly me, I didn't remember to take pictures the whole time they were here until they were about to leave (-_-*) But at least we got a couple of shots and here's one of them.
It was great seeing her again and hopefully next time they visit, they'll stay longer (^_^)

Thanksgiving
Our first Thanksgiving here in our home (^_^) For the past 7 years, we've always gone to gatherings. But we decided to spend this year's Thanksgiving here at home. Turkey was out of the question since that'll be too much for just the three of us so we thought of making stuffed chicken instead. But Finn wanted ham so that's what we prepared ... or rather, Jojo prepared (^_^) We also bought lasagna and yams, and I made some mashed potatoes. The recipe I got for the yams called for maple syrup but I made honey syrup instead since we have honey crystals here. The yams were so good with lots of pepper. The ham was very tasty too. Finn ate all of the mashed potatoes (>_<) So it was all good, a nice, quiet thanksgiving for us. How was your thanksgiving?
Looky!
It got delivered this morning (^_^) We went shopping Saturday am and found a set that's simple looking, yet energy efficient, and has just the right amount of settings that we need. After they installed it, we put it to work right away (^_^) As I'm writing this, it's on it's second load already and more to come! hahaha ... well, maybe I won't do all of it today. There's probably like 5 more loads left (can you tell we haven't gone to the laundromat in quite a while?) Yeah, I'll do the rest tomorrow. Don't want to traumatize it (~_^)
Greenery
UPDATE: I forgot to include our Lemon Cypress that we planted outside so it's now in the slide show below. Also, if you want to see Finn's room, let me know your email address so I can send you an invitation to view them (^_^)
--------
Just wanted to share with you the indoor plants that we bought today. As I've said before, I like plants, but they don't like me (-_-). Fortunately, Jojo has a green thumb so it's his job to take care of them (^_^). The yellow ripple ivy and the orchid sit on top of pedestals in our dining room. The cordyline and dragon tree are in the planters that I bought yesterday and they're in the living room. They make me smile when I see them (^_^) I hope they thrive in their new home.

Day in the City
Finn didn't have school yesterday and today because of a teacher's convention. School was closed on Tuesday too for the election. Since I didn't have work today either, Finn was able to convince me to go to the city (I was hesitant coz it was cloudy and, well, I was just lazy ... hehehe). We took the 10am bus and was there in about 30 mins. We were gonna meet Jojo for lunch so I thought we'd go downtown already and wait there instead. Finn was finally able to see his dad's office ... he'd been wanting to go for a long time (^_^). After lunch, we went back to midtown and walked to - where else - Nintendo World. Played for over 3 hours and bought something ... again. I don't think there has ever been a time that we went there and came home empty handed (^_^) But Mario was just so cute I couldn't resist!
When we got home, look at what arrived ... our custom wiimote skins!!! I designed it and ordered it from SkinIt through Best Buy on Monday afternoon. Fast right? Now even if we bring our wiimotes elsewhere, or if our friends bring theirs here, there'd be no confusion as to which one's ours.As you can see, it's us (^_^)

Guest Room
I started painting the guestroom on October 26 but had a few interruptions due to rain and time constraints so it got done just this Tuesday. Finn requested for a spot for him to paint and since there was no school on Tuesday, I let him "finish" the room. I didn't buy new paint for this. We still had leftover paint from Finn's room so I thought of just buying a tint to add to the blue to make a new color. I like this color. It kinda looks like teal but with just a tad more green to it ... I think.
So I primed the purple walls and did that first. I thought I won't be needing primer for the yellow walls since it's light enough that it won't show through the new paint. But when I painted over it, it didn't want to hold on as well as the primed walls. Probably because the yellow paint was a little glossy. I didn't panic, I just got some newspaper and started texturizing instead, which allowed some of the yellow paint to show through. You can't see it in the photo coz it's very subtle but I'm happy with it (^_^)
Right now, our old bedroom furniture is in here and last night we brought the computer table and all my "office" stuff down here from our bedroom. I'm not done organizing my stuff but I'll do that today. So this will now be the guest room / home office. I'll take more pictures of the whole room once it's presentable (^_^).

Fight Negativity!
I just hired my own kendo swordsman to protect my blog from negativity (^_^) To demonstrate, I'm gonna write a few negative words. In fact there's already one in a previous post, when I said that even cacti and grass die on me. So here's a couple more: stupid, pervert. Click on Fight to summon the kendo swordsman and enjoy (^_^) Click on close at the upper right to end the fight.
New Look?
Decided to change the look in here, more in keeping with our title of Anime Lovers. The characters on top are our first favorites and have been our online identities for a long time. In fact, my very first website was all about Sailor Moon (^_^) Anyhoo, not sure if I'm gonna stick with this or what ... let me know your thoughts.
Of Drums And Mushrooms
We've been thinking of what to put in the middle of our front lawn. The previous owners had a bird bath, but I wasn't keen on having one, mainly because of the risk of mosquitos spawning there. So we looked and looked and finally settled on the Asian Raindrum and Mushroom Chimes. I assembled and staked them this morning. We also bought this Lamp Post and this Address Marker since the current house number on the mailbox is partly obscured by the topiary in front. I think you can make out the welcome sign in one of the pictures below.
Slowly, we're beginning to make this house our own (^_^)

Fall Arrangement
I went to Michaels yesterday to buy frames and fall bushes, since they were on sale. Bought 5 bushes to make this arrangement in a basket that I already had. Plants don't really like me (even grass and cacti die on me, can you believe that?!) so I can't have live plants in the house (unless hubby takes care of them). Silk flowers are the way to go for me and since I like arranging, I figured it's time I made something (^_^) Love these colors ... don't you?
DELTA Team
Finn has been a member of the DELTA Team (aka demo team) in his TKD school for some time now but they received their uniform and weapons during the summer. I have been meaning to take pictures but I keep forgetting =P But now that I remembered to bring my camera, here are the photos I took yesterday.
They're still in training so they haven't really gone somewhere to demonstrate their skills or entered tournaments. They might do that next year.
During yesterday's class, they were also given their DELTA Team patch which I sewed on his uniform yesterday afternoon. Notice the patch on his right? It says Academic Achiever. He got that when he was able to collect 5 stars for good grades in school (^_^) Master Kim monitors each student's school grades and their behavior at home too because that's part of their training. Cool right?
Finn's next goal would be to be a part of the SWAT Team which trains them to become leaders and future instructors. I'm glad he's enjoying all this. It's not only physical exercise but mental as well.

Locks of Love
Got my haircut today! I decided to donate it to Locks of Love so I got a FREE haircut (^_^) They make hair pieces for disadvantaged children suffering from hair loss. Googled salons in our area that participate in Locks of Love and found one nearby. Good thing she was able to squeeze me in this afternoon so after I picked Finn up from school, I went there for my 3.30 appointment. Debbie of Studio G Hair Design was so accommodating and she didn't rush my cut just because it was free, she took her time. She washed it, cut it, dried it and styled it. She took off 14 inches! My hair feels so light now and I feel good too knowing my hair will be of use to someone who needs it. Definitely going to do that again (^_^)
Mario Wall
We put up this wall art last night (^_^) It was fun getting to think of a scene and putting it on the wall with the pieces. It's a re-usable wall graphic so if Finn gets bored with this scene, we can always change it up. When I first saw this in Nintendo World, they had the New Super Mario Bros. on their wall, but I didn't buy it then coz I thought it was a bit expensive. The next time we were there, this was on the wall. And the other time it was Donkey Kong. When we thought of buying it (instead of me painting the scene myself), they didn't have the New Super Mario version, only this one and Donkey Kong. Fortunately, Finn chose this one over the New version coz he says he misses the old style Mario. So we bought it way before we were able to move into our house. Then I painted his room, and thought of putting it up after the paint dried. When I looked at the instructions for the wall graphics, it said to let fresh paint cure for 2 weeks (-_-) So we had to wait. And we chose this paint color so as to match the blue sky in the Mario game, specifically for this wall graphic. And it fits perfectly in this corner of the room too. It looks great doesn't it?
Giants vs Bengals
We watched our first football game yesterday and boy what a game! I wasn't really into football ... I knew a little bit about it, the rules and stuff coz Jojo watches it. But I didn't really follow the games and players. But we were able to get FREE tickets for yesterday's game so I wanted to go (^_^) Let me tell you, watching the game on tv is no comparison. I actually learned a whole lot more from watching the real game coz you can't reallyy follow it on tv. It was so exciting especially since it was a close game! They had to go on overtime too. Good thing I said I wanted to finish watching it coz our friends left before it went into overtime - they didn't want to get stuck in traffic coz of all the people going out at the same time after the game. Giants won!!! 26-23 (^_^) I have a lot of photos to share with you and a couple of my videos. You wouldn't be able to see much on the first one (coz I was jumping =P) but I was able to capture the final point.
Woohoo!
Final point!
Woohoo!
Final point!
A Very Long Post
I wasn't able to update this coz of our move, and the fact that Verizon messed up our transfer big time. We got our connection back Thursday afternoon but we're still busy unpacking and sorting and arranging stuff. Here's what's been happening:
Aug. 26: After Finn's TKD class, we went straight to the certificate ceremony at the library for kids who read at least 10 books during the summer break. The mayor was there too and he gave out the certificates. He got his which came with a goodie bag with bug related stuff since their theme is "Catch the Reading Bug". They also gave out a juice box and munchkins for the kids. Then on the Sept. 10 issue of our local paper, they posted a picture of the group during the ceremony. Miss Spider was there too, posing with the kids (^_^)
Aug. 29: We started moving our stuff in right after we got the keys to the house. The airbeds we borrowed were our first beds here. The rest of the house was empty of furniture because our big move was on the 30th. I'm just gonna show you what we used for our dining table before and after the one we bought got delivered. I kinda felt sorry for us eating on the folding tables sitting on folding chairs ... hehehe.
Aug. 30: Our moving day. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take pictures because we were busy hauling stuff from the apartment to the house. Jojo rented a U-Haul van and it took 2 trips to bring in most of the stuff. Take note, only most of the stuff were moved. Meaning, there were still stuff left in the apartment. Can you just imagine the amount of things we have accumulated and how we were able to fit it in the apartment? It's amazing and if you've watched a Mission Organization episode or Clean House, I assure you it looked like the before shots. Our basement was full with boxes, even our garage. Finn's room was also full with his stuff. There were boxes in every room of the house.
Aug. 31: We went back to the apartment early morning to get the rest of the stuff and tried to fit it in the car ... overflowing I tell ya! I even had to put stuff on my lap when we went home. We also had to clean up the apartment and return the keys. We let Finn stay outside in the backyard as we were cleaning up coz he was just gonna get in the way. Plus it was so dusty, I was sneezing most of the time. Don't want his allergies to act up too. I think we were done before 1pm. After lunch, the boys decided to clean up the pool and swim at the same time (^_^)
Sept. 01: It's Labor Day so no work for hubby. We started unpacking things and then our friends from the neighboring town dropped by. No Labor Day barbecue for us since we don't have a grill yet. We just stayed out on the deck, the boys swimming. The water was cold even when it was hot out and it took a while for the little one to get in the water. Finn can reach the bottom of the pool on his tippy toes so the little guy was able to borrow Finn's floater. The boys were shivering later on so they didn't really stay in the water long.
Sept. 03: First day of school for Finn and he's in first grade!!! Can you believe it? It's only a 4-hour session for the first week of school so I picked him up at 12.30 instead of 3pm. Same set of classmates plus 2 new ones. At first he was worried about being in 1st grade. He said there'll be lots of homework. But after the first day, you know what he said? "I like 1st grade". I bet he feels all grown up (^_^) He said they reviewed some Kindergarten lessons and did some work. No homework yet during the first week. But even with the homework he gets right now, I don't hear him complaining. He does it in less than 5 minutes. A little more if there's coloring involved coz he takes time in choosing his colors.
Sept. 05: I started painting Finn's room on the 2nd and was able to prime it that day. Started painting it blue the next day but since I had to pick him up from school early, I couldn't really finish painting until the 5th. Finn picked out this color himself from the different shades of blue I chose. It's called 100 acre morning from Disney. I left a corner for Finn to paint himself. Also, I was able to stain 2 of the dining chairs we bought from IKEA. The smell of the stain was so strong I had to wear a mask. It turned well don't you think? And it matched the color of the wood of our dining table perfectly (^_^). We had to let this dry outside for 2 days though, just to be sure.
Sept. 08: I started working in Finn's TKD school as manager (^_^) Right now it's only 2 hours a day, 4 days a week. We're still in the beginning of revamping the place so there's no real "work" done yet. Just some research on stuff we would like to add to the school. So Finn goes with me since I work from 4-6pm. He just hangs out there, playing his DS if he doesn't have a class.
Sept. 10: Verizon arrived late to transfer our triple play account but was only able to connect the phone. He said he'll come back tomorrow to fix the rest. Our bedroom set was also supposed to be delivered today but they called to say they won't make it till tomorrow (*-_-)
Sept. 11: Our bedroom set was finally delivered. It was supposed to arrive on the 30th but for some reason, it came late. Now all we need is a mattress. Verizon didn't come ... geez! They're really pissing us off.
Sept. 12: Verizon came (finally!) to fix our internet and cable connection and was done after lunch. Then the plumber came to fix the pump in the basement bathroom. Then after school, Finn had his first playdate here at home! They had fun switching from DS, to Wii to PS2 to toys and back again (^_^)
Sept. 14: After lunch, our friends came by to swim since it was hot out. Unfortunately, the water was ice cold! But that didn't stop us from going in (^_^) Jojo cooked salmon for dinner and we got to use our dining table's extension for the first time! There were 7 of us and the table seats 6 so we had to pull out one of the leaves (our table extends on both ends). It will seat 10 with both leaves out. I forgot to take a picture though (>_<)
We have made great progress in unpacking stuff. The garage only has a quarter of things left in it as compared to the whole place when we first moved in ... the basement only has a few more things left to place in the bookshelves. We're still sleeping down there since we don't have a mattress yet but not on the airbeds anymore. We have our old futon there.
When the basement is done, we're moving on to our bedroom. Hopefully we'll be able to find the perfect mattress for us soon at the right price. They're so expensive! After the bedroom, I guess it's the living room next. Right now there's only the new sleeper sofa, our old coffee table plus 2 new side tables in there. It's doesn't feel like a living room yet. And once everything is presentable, I'll take photos for you to see (^_^)
