Off we go!

Well, not yet, on Wednesday, but I'm not sure I can update this while we're in the Philippines coz I won't be bringing my laptop with me. Even if I rely on internet cafes, there won't be pics coz I don't want to bring along our hard drive while we're out. I'll try my best ok? I'll just keep track of what we'll be doing and update you when I can (^_^) Take care!

Belt Test

Finn took a belt promotion test this afternoon for High Brown. Jojo's not here yet so I had to do double duty with the videocam on one hand and the camera in the other. I took a video with the camera for his breaking technique since I can't seem to capture it at the right moment and it's blurry most of the time so video clip it is. Here he is (^_^)

Orisinal

It's not a typo ... I came upon this site, Orisinal, and it has lots of cutesy looking games - cute graphics, cute music, that you'd expect the games to be easy or for kids only ... but it's not. Some are but not all of them. Try them out (^_^)

Summer

It's officially the first day of summer!!! And tomorrow's the last day of school for Finn (^_^) And on Wednesday we'll be flying to Manila - yay!!! Have a great summer everyone!

5 Dancing Princesses

Not 12 Dancing Princesses ... coz there were only 5 girls who wanted to play that part. This was in the Library, and Ms. Karen, the storyteller, was there. She asked the kids what part they wanted to play - animal, girl part or man part. She then did make-up for the kids (whiskers for animals, mustaches for boys and blush and eyeshadow for girls). When she explained what the kids were supposed to do, she asked them again what part they wanted to play - king, queen, knights, woodsman, wizard, witch, rabbit, cat and mouse. When all the parts were filled, she then asked the kids to come up and then gave them their costumes and accessories. The kids were then positioned in the room and she started telling the story. Here's how it went ... she would tell the story and the kids have to act it out (^_^) She can't stop in the middle of the story because there was music and she had to keep up with the music. So the kids really had to listen to what she was saying, so that they know what they're supposed to do. It was fun watching them (^_^) Here's a short clip.

Seven

Cess tagged me about the 7 things I do for vanity ... not that I'm overly vain (~_^)

1. Let's start with the face. I use Olay moisture balancing foaming face wash, then Lander moisturizing skin cream with AHA, followed by Dove essential nutrients day lotion with SPF 15.

2. I never leave the house without putting on brown eyeliner, pluck and brush my eyebrows, curl my lashes (which are naturally long), Cover Girl pressed face powder and lip balm. I don't wear lipstick now, or lip gloss, just tinted lip balms. I love Burt's Bees. I tried Neutrogena and Almay before but I prefer Burt's Bees. It's cool on the lips.

3. I don't like my eyebags ... ever since I was small, I've had them. Even if I had a good night's sleep, they're permanently there. So I use Neutrogena skin soothing undereye corrector which lightens and cools the skin.

4. For the body I put on Nivea skin firming moisturizer with Q10 plus all over. Then Aveeno continuous protection sunblock lotion with SPF 45.

5. I don't have a problem with my hair. Any shampoo will do and I don't use conditioners because it'll only make my hair super limp. I only use conditioners when going to the beach so that my hair doesn't dry out. I also don't get haircuts often ... maybe once a year. Other times I just do it myself.

6. I don't get my nails done or have facials or massages. First of all, it's expensive. Second, I only paint my nails when I have to, like going to a wedding or something ... or when I feel like it (which is rare). My body doesn't like getting massages, it complains. Last time I had a facial was before my wedding - that was 6 years ago. So, yeah.

7. I like clothes, shoes, jewelry, watches ... but I don't shop for them, only if we really, really need them. We probably have major shopping sprees every 2 years or so, and only during sales or we shop at outlets. I have a lot of shoes that I should probably start weeding out the ones I don't wear at all, like the ones under the bed. I always wear my engagement and wedding rings plus maybe another ring, and earrings. Right now I have 3 watches (used to have more since that's what I usually get for presents) that I rotate. I don't usually wear necklaces or bracelets, only on special occassions. Sometimes I wear anklets too.

I think that's it ... it only asked for 7 so now I tag Aggie, Hazel, Jho, and Julie.

Happy Father's Day!

To all father's out there (^_^) We celebrated by eating out but I wanted to go somewhere we haven't tried yet so I searched the net and found Spain Restaurant which was on our way home from church. The reviews from patrons were all 5 stars so that's where I wanted to go ... plus we haven't had Spanish fare in a long time. The restaurant was a bit inconspicuous but it was really nice inside. Service was fast and friendly too. We ordered clams in a half shell for appetizer and Jojo and I shared the onion soup. When you think Spanish, you think paella so that's what we had. We weren't able to eat even half of it ... that's how much there was but it was good! Lots and lots of shellfish plus chicken and chorizo (yum yum). We had the rest bagged so I'll be eating that for the whole week probably (^_^).

After lunch we stopped by Blockbuster to look for Master Kim's (Finn's TKD Master) movie - Secret War. This was filmed in 2003 but was only recently released in rental stores. I think the other title of this is Ultimate Master. Unfortunately, the Blockbuster near us didn't carry it. Master Kim said that all Hollywood Video stores had it but only some Blockbuster's did. We're not members of Hollywood Video and the nearest isn't that far away but I'd rather not go there. Netflix carries it too but we don't subscribe to that either. I guess I'll just have to look at another Blockbuster somewhere. Anyway, Jojo rented Ghost Rider so we watched that when we got home. After the movie, we went to the park. We got home at 7pm already so after a quick shower for Finn, we ate and now I'm writing this (^_^)

Tomorrow, Jojo's going to Florida again. This is also Finn's last week in school then it's summer vacation (^_^) I have to finish packing our stuff too and preparing whatever needs to be left with our friends (like our fish and maybe payments for stuff) by the end of the week. Yay!!!!! We're all soooooo excited about our vacation. To all our friends and family ... see you soon (^_^)

Imagine ...

How this will change the way we view photos. I got goosepimples watching this and all I could utter was ... OMG! Truly genius ... I can't wait to use this. Thanks Owen for sharing!

Swim Class

Finn's swim class at YMCA started yesterday afternoon and will go on until Wednesday next week (except Friday-Sunday). This is his 3rd year and is now in the Preschool 2 class. We usually do this in the summer but since we'll be on vacation soon, we decided to enroll him now. He's gonna be tired on Thursday since he has TKD class at 4 and that ends before 5pm, then we'll have to go straight to the pool for his 5.30 class. We usually go to church on Thursdays too but I guess we'll just have to go tomorrow so that we don't have to rush too much to get to places on time.

WOW!!!

Tell me, have you ever seen a rainbow cloud before? On my way to pick-up Finn from school, I saw these gorgeous clouds and I just said ... wow! I told Finn we had to hurry home so I can get the camera and take pics. I took a couple in my phone but I don't think it's gonna come out well so I had to get a real camera. This is the first time I've ever seen this happen. What's weird is, it's only this group of clouds that were colored, the rest are white. We ran home and I took the camera and went outside again. Of course these pics don't really do justice to the real thing but I darkened the background of the last 2 photos so you can see the intensity of the colors which were really, really breathtaking. I have to research on why this occurred but right now, I'm still in awe. Isn't God just great? Giving us eye candy like this (^_^) I stopped to thank Him after taking these pics for letting me see His wonder. Just awesome!

UPDATE: Ok, so I found this explanation in the National Geographic News Online:

"Known in the weather world as a circumhorizontal arc" ... "The arc isn't a rainbow in the traditional sense—it is caused by light passing through wispy, high-altitude cirrus clouds. The sight occurs only when the sun is very high in the sky (more than 58° above the horizon). What's more, the hexagonal ice crystals that make up cirrus clouds must be shaped like thick plates with their faces parallel to the ground.
When light enters through a vertical side face of such an ice crystal and leaves from the bottom face, it refracts, or bends, in the same way that light passes through a prism. If a cirrus's crystals are aligned just right, the whole cloud lights up in a spectrum of colors."—Victoria Gilman

Popcorn, Indiana

Is a real place by the way ... but the one I'm talking about here is the brand of popcorn - Popcorn, Indiana. I bought a 12oz Spicy Honey Mustard Kettlecorn last Friday and I love it!!! It's addicting (^_^) I bet I could eat the whole bag if I don't stop myself (the 12oz is the largest). You gotta try it if you find it. There are other flavored kettlecorns too like Summer Picnic BBQ and Smoked Cheddar Cheese but I haven't tried those. Maybe I will the next time I go to the grocery but I will definitely buy another Spicy Honey Mustard ... yummmmm!!!

Central Park

We spent the whole afternoon in Central Park today for Baby Kate's first birthday party (^_^) We took the bus, then the subway. There are actually 3 parts to her birthday. The first started at 2pm at the Victorian Gardens at Wollman Rink in Central Park. It's a Family Amusement Park where even little kids can ride by themselves, except for the Rock Climb which required kids to be of a certain weight. We love amusement parks so of course we had lots of fun. Birthday guests were given an all day pass/bracelet which includes all rides, plus 10 tickets for the games and the rock climb. Finn and Jojo won a fish in the watergun race (^_^)

2nd part was held in the Central Park Zoo - Zoo School at 4.30pm. They had a brief introduction for the kids on what kind of animals they'll see in the zoo, set some rules and all that. Afterwhich the kids were given hats to wear, and we all went on a tour of the zoo. It's not a big zoo ... what do you expect, it's in Manhattan. All we saw were the sea lions, seals, Japanese snow monkeys, polar bears, and penguins and puffins. At least that's what was part of the tour. After the tour we went back to the Zoo School to eat.

3rd part was going to be at Baby Kate's home near Exchange Place in Jersey City at 7.30pm. We didn't go there anymore since we didn't bring our car and we had to catch the 7.30pm bus home. So we said our goodbyes after eating.

My legs are tired from the long walk from the subway to the amusement park, to the zoo, around the zoo, then back to Port Authority. The only time we sat was to eat and that wasn't long at all. Plus this morning, Finn and I had to take the bus to TKD since the car was at the shop for re-alignment. We had to walk to the bus stop too and the whole hour I was in TKD, I was standing up. So my legs had a work-out today. BTW, Master Kim took a picture of the participants in the tournament with their trophies. It might come out in the paper (^_^) Cool!

Happy Birthday!

I'm now 32 years old (^_^). To celebrate, we just ate out for lunch. Jojo planned on eating in Outback but when we got there, turned out they weren't open for lunch ... go figure. So we went to Chili's instead. We both had the Cajun Ribeye (yummy) and dessert was on Chili's since Jojo told them it was my birthday. They sang and all that.

After lunch we went shopping for other pasalubongs (a souvenir or small gift for friends and family) and for us too ... I bought another swimsuit (yay!) I bought one last month and wanted another one since my old swimsuits no longer fit right *sigh* and you gotta have at least 2 right? hehehe ... At first he didn't want me to buy another one since we don't really go swimming often. But I guess he felt guilty with the way I was looking longingly at those swimsuits ... hahaha (just picture Puss' feel-sorry-for-me face from Shrek)

So now my problem is how to pack all our stuff. I can't really pack some of our clothes yet since it's almost summer here now and it's getting hot so we're still gonna be using them. I have the suitcases open in front of me now and for the time being, just threw in all the pasalubongs. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be fine once I think it through. The excitement of going home is really building since it's only over 3 weeks from now (^_^) Weeeee!!!!! Can't wait to see everyone!
