Dinner and a Show

Yesterday was the opening night for The Vagina Monologues and it went pretty well (^_^) The show was sold out! Isn't that great? Everybody was awesome. Can't wait to do it again on the 14th! I'll post pics when I get them ok?
So after the show was a cast party with VIP ticket holders but sadly I wasn't able to go coz yesterday was also Jojo's birthday and he watched the show and wanted to have some quality time to celebrate. We left soon after the show ended and took the last bus home at 11.30pm. The not-so-good part of this was, there was an accident on 495 that happened after 7pm but was still not cleared and had caused major - and I mean major - delays. We got to the station an hour later which should have just taken close to 25-30 mins.
As for Jojo's celebration, we just went to a nearby diner since it's the only one open for 24 hours. I had a milkshake and big belgian waffle with fruits and whipped cream. Jojo had a huge omelette with sausage and mushrooms that came with home style fries and toast. Yum.
If you're wondering where Finn was all this time, we made him have a sleepover at a friend's (^_^) We're gonna pick him up later this morning in time for his TKD class.

Onigiri and Miso

I was in the mood for some onigiri so I decided to make it for dinner, along with miso soup (^_^) An onigiri would have a filling in the middle but instead of a filling, I mixed in my ingredient with the rice and furikake. I used spam again since that's the only "filling" I have at the moment. I would have wanted some spicy tuna or salmon but I didn't have that so spam it is. Instead of making bricks like a musubi, you form it into a triangle (or ball if you want). Then wrap one side with nori. This is so much easier to eat than the musubi coz it's not too thick that you have to open your mouth so wide.
I was able to make 5 1/2 with 1 1/2 cups of uncooked rice. I guess I could have made just 5 but I have to practice some more so I could make them in roughly the same size. So Jojo and I had 2 each and Finn got the 1 1/2. For the miso soup, I made enough for 2 but Finn liked it so we shared mine. Yum yum!!!

Awesome News!

We are now officially immigrants! Just received our green cards in the mail today (^_^) Isn't that great? After almost 5 years, we can finally breathe easy and put our mind at ease .... sigh. I can't tell you enough how happy we are right now.

I'll also be able to apply for a SS# so I can get a part-time job. I found one that's near here, it's a drive-in restaurant called Stewart's. I already sent in my application and they gave me an info sheet to memorize (which I haven't done yet). I just have to call them for the test and if I pass that, I'll be waiting tables ... or rather ... cars (^_^) Although there are some tables outside too. I will request for the last shift so that I don't have to enroll Finn for after-school care. I'm hoping to find something I can do from home but most are the pyramid kind of businesses which is not really my cup of tea. We'll see, I have to get my SS# first.

Our vacation to the PI in July will be extra special since we don't have to worry about our status anymore. Last time we went home was end of December 2002, Finn was only 11 months then. We're so excited! I'm hoping to have a reunion with Sienans for both grade school and high school coz it's been years! They've had countless gatherings already so I hope one more while I'm there is not too much to ask of them.

Weeee!!!!! Time to celebrate (^_^)

Snow Storm

The last one I hope ... it snowed the whole day Friday until late evening so we accumulated maybe 6-8 inches. We had the chance to make a big snowman this afternoon (^_^) The consistency is best right now coz it sticks together well. So we decorated him with an old scarf and bonnet and we used veggies for the eyes (eggplant), nose (carrot), and mouth (green beans) then branches for the arms.
There's also a monkey face on top of a pole to the right to ward off birds when we plant veggies at the back. We used that monkey as the target for our snowballs (^_^) It was a fun afternoon though we didn't stay out very long coz it was getting windy.

Sleepless

I didn't sleep at all last night ... not a wink. I may have some sort of insomnia coz it takes me at least 30 mins (sometimes hours) before I fall asleep and I wake up at least once in the middle of the night and then it's gonna take me as long again to fall back to sleep.

So I was in bed at around 8:30pm coz I knew I was tired but I can't fall asleep. My eyes don't want to close and it gets strained coz I'm trying to keep them closed. No luck. I get out of bed before 12 and I was just sitting in the living room, in the dark. Then I decide maybe watching something will help me fall asleep so I open my laptop and watch Initial D episodes. I sit there watching till 3am, still not sleepy, but I turn it off and go back to the sofa, closed my eyes ... still doesn't want to stay closed so I just stared. 4am came, then 5, then 6, then the alarm goes off and it's time to "wake up". I turn on the TV and prepare Jojo's lunch and the day goes on.

This is the first time that I didn't really get any sleep at all. I usually can squeeze in maybe an hours sleep when my insomnia acts up like this, but not last night. And up till now, I'm not sleepy at all. I was hoping maybe I can take a nap but alas, I'm wide awake. I have to talk to my doctor about this but I'm afraid of becoming dependent on sleep aids. I think it's better when I'm sick coz the medicine that I take usually helps me sleep through the night (0_o) Oh well ...

Rental

Our car has been in the shop since Friday afternoon so we rented a car for the weekend from Enterprise. Jojo asked for an economy car but they sent a minivan instead for the same price (^_^) Finn liked it very much coz it was so roomy that he has a lot of space to play in. I returned it this morning and they drove me back to the house since we still don't have our car. That's what's nice about Enterprise, they can pick you up and drive you back if you need it, all part of their service.

As for our car, the insurance said that someone will come check it in 3-5 days (0_o) Good thing we don't really need it yet, until Thursday that is. Not sure what we're gonna do. *sigh*

What a day!

Today was our biometrics appointment at 11am. Good news right? But since last night, it has been raining. Not too hard but I guess it just kept pouring until this morning and there were quite a few flooded areas, including Hackensack where we were supposed to go. On the way we had to take detours coz of flooded areas and so when we were finally near the office, there was another flooded area. We don't know what route to take coz we're not familiar with the place and it was almost time for our appointment and we don't dare miss it! So we decided to just go ahead and brave the waters. If it was just a short stretch we wouldn't have had any problems but it was deep and long and about half-way through, the car stops (0_o) OMG, we have to get to our appointment! The car wouldn't start. We called the insurance and while Jojo was on the phone, a tow truck passed by and asked if we wanted him to push us out. Lucky! So he pushed us until we found the street that we were supposed to take and found a parking spot. He gave us his card and we'll just let our insurance take care of it. We walked to the office and we got there 5 minutes before our appointment. Whew! So we had our fingerprints taken and then after all that, we walked back to the car hoping it would start. No luck. We called the guy who towed us earlier and had him take us to the Meineke near our house. He said they had a service shop near us too and wouldn't you know, it was just a block away. So we went there and they told us that if we had full coverage, it was better to just claim for total instead of repairing it coz we'll probably just have other problems in the future with the wiring and other stuff since it got flooded. Oh dear ... I don't know what we're gonna do yet. If we have to claim for total, we have to buy a new car (-_-)

*Sigh* On a happier note, Finn got his high red belt yesterday! 3 more belts to go before black.

And here's Finn with his girlfriend Blossom from the Powerpuff Girls (^_^) Ok ok, don't raise your eyebrow, I know what you're thinking: "why would she give a girl's plushie to a boy?" He has been asking for one since he decided that Blossom will be his girlfriend. He says she's pretty and he wishes that Blossom was real. So we looked for it in the stores but we didn't find any until we searched the web. She got here Wednesday and he's been carrying her around all the time. As you can see in the picture, he even sleeps with her. He also asks to look at Blossom pictures on the internet (^_^) So cute!
